📝 From Spare Room to Shared Space: Why HB Workspaces Was Created
Over the past 12 months, like many people, I’ve been working from home.
At first, it worked. No commute, flexibility, Teams calls replacing meetings — all the things we’ve come to expect from modern working. But over time, something started to feel off.
The spare room became an office.
The kitchen table became a desk.
Laptops, paperwork and notes slowly took over the house.
And I realised… I missed people.
I missed the conversations, the energy, the simple act of getting ready and going somewhere with purpose. Working from home can be convenient, but it can also be isolating — and sometimes, just uncomfortable. My mental health felt a bit wobbly.
At the same time, life threw something much bigger my way.
In November, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Surgery followed in January, and since then it’s been about recovery, perspective, and moving forward.
When an office became available just around the corner from my home — right on the border of Tarleton and Hesketh Bank — I knew it was an opportunity. Even though it came sooner than expected, shortly after radiotherapy, something told me not to let it pass.
Initially, the plan was simple.
A space for my businesses — HB People and HB Travel are here.
A place to meet clients face-to-face again.
Somewhere to park the Sassy Fiat outside and create a visible, welcoming presence.
Because while virtual meetings are brilliant, many people still value sitting down together, having a conversation, and building relationships in person.
But when I stepped into the space, I realised something else.
It was bigger than I needed.
And that’s where the idea for HB Workspaces was born.
Before going all in, I put a post out on a local community Facebook page to see if anyone else felt the same.
The response was immediate.
So many people said they would love something like this locally — and when I asked what would make it work, the answers were simple:
Good WiFi and good coffee.
So that’s exactly where we started.
We partnered with Lift Off IT Services to make sure the connectivity was right, invested in a proper bean-to-cup coffee machine, and got to work on some upgrades and renovations to bring the space to life.
I started thinking about all the people in our local area who might be feeling the same way I had been:
Working from a spare room that’s no longer a spare room
- Sitting at a kitchen table on an uncomfortable chair
Juggling work with distractions at home
Missing human interaction
People who don’t necessarily want to commute into a city… but still want a proper place to work.
HB Workspace is my answer to that.
A calm, welcoming space in the heart of the village, offering:
Flexible coworking desks
A private meeting room
Short-term or rolling options
A place to work without long contracts or city commutes
Something that brings a city-style offering — like Regus or WeWork — into a local, community setting.
But with a difference.
Here, you can walk to work.
Pop home if you need to.
Let the dog out at lunch.
And most importantly — feel part of something.
This isn’t just about desks and WiFi.
It’s about creating a space where people can:
*focus
*connect
*share ideas
*support each other
A place where, if you’re stuck on something, you can turn to someone and say, “what do you think?”
A place where ideas can grow.
For me personally, this is also about moving forward.
After everything the past few months have brought, this is something positive to build, something to be proud of, and something that can genuinely help others at the same time.
We officially moved into the space today, Tuesday 5th May 2026, and while there are still a few finishing touches and the meeting room to complete, we’re ready to open the doors.
Our Grand Opening will take place on:
📍 295 Hesketh Lane, Tarleton, PR4 6RJ
📅 Friday 15th May 2026
⏰ 2pm – 6pm
Everyone is welcome to come along, have a look around, and see what we’ve created.
And afterwards… we’ll be heading over for a drink at The Hive / Tipsy to celebrate. Love supporting local businesses, trades and services.
